Identifying and eliminating the wastes is key to delivering value to the customers

So, how does Lean identify waste?

I can do it if I know it!

Typically there are many types of wastes in processes. The 8 main areas where Lean looks to eliminate waste:

  1. Defects in a process,

  2. Overproduction,

  3. Waiting for idle time between operations,

  4. Non-utilized talent (not making use of skills employees bring to the table),

  5. Wasteful transportation practices,

  6. Excess inventory,

  7. Unnecessary actions by employees or machines,

  8. Extra processing, or steps that do not add value
